Laura Cooper is a Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who specializes in psychiatric medication management and psychotherapy. Mrs. Cooper is trained in treating psychiatric disorders across the lifespan to include experience in treating depression, anxiety, post traumatic stress disorder, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and personality disorders. Her approach to care is to collaborate with patients regarding their mental health goals and to reach those goals together with pharmacological and nonpharmacological interventions. She believes an empathetic, caring, and understanding approach to care is the best way to treat those who seek it. She is a strong advocate for reducing mental health stigma as this is one of the biggest barriers for those who need care.   


Mrs. Cooper graduated HS Valedictorian and began her healthcare career working with individuals with disabilities through OCCK, Inc. Mrs. Cooper was a team leader and supervised over 10 employees in addition to facilitating services for clients with developmental disabilities. Mrs. Cooper then pursued her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Baker University, while also working for Valeo Behavioral Healthcare, and upon obtaining her BSN, Mrs. Cooper began working at the Colmery O’Neil Topeka Veteran Affairs Medical Center as a psychiatric registered nurse. Following this, Mrs. Cooper pursued her Master’s Degree in Nursing specializing in Psychiatry from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Upon obtaining her degree, license and board certification in psychiatry through ANCC, Mrs. Cooper began working as a nurse practitioner for the VA in their outpatient mental health clinic. Overall, Mrs. Cooper has over 10 years of experience in psychiatric care.
